These courses will get you started or help you brush up on the basics of wheel throwing, trimming and glazing. Learn how to throw a variety of functional vessels or enhance the skills you know. The Craft Center provides all tools and equipment. Students purchase clay from the Craft Center, your instructor will advise you of your options.

Express Yourself! Low fire Surface Design
Thursdays 7-9:30 Oct. 16 to Dec. 11(No Class 11/27)
CER-25 Diana Bizanele Class Fee: $38 Materials Fee: $15
This class offers basic instruction of wheel throwing coupled with color and surface design techniques. Low fire pottery allows for more predictable glaze results than high fire, with a brighter palette, while remaining functional for food & drink. Learn to combine form and surface in a deliberate way with hand-painted vibrant low fire underglazes. Open to beginning and intermediate potters looking for consistent glazes, vibrant colors and more control. Students purchase their clay from the Craft Center. Materials fee covers underglazes for class.

Parent and Child Pottery
Saturdays 9 -11:00 Oct. 18 to Nov. 22
CER-27 Sandy Moore Class Fee: $38
Note: In this class the child is attending under the parent's membership. For the price of one, you and your child can spend Saturday mornings together learning how to work with clay. Lots of project ideas shared! This six-week course will get you started with hand building, throwing and glazing. The Craft Center provides equipment, tools, glazes and firings. Students purchase clay from the Craft Center. Best for school aged children. Note additional children per parent are subject to instructor’s approval & additional fees. (Please purchase clay before the first class).

Craft CenterIntroductory Transparent Watercolor

Learn techniques for painting with the freshness and brilliancy characteristic of transparent watercolor. You will be taught the fundamentals of washes, glazing, rendering and wet-in-wet. Topics covered will also include mixing colors, layering, value and planning your composition. A brief materials list will be available prior to class.

In this simple and fun 4-hour class, you will make a cutout for a dog/cat and learn how to set a semi- precious stone as well as stamp your pet’s information on the tag. Even if his name if “Fido”, your pouch will be the star of the dog park with a snazzy collar, set with your own gem of choice! Please sign up at least 5 days in advance, so special material can be purchased.

Learn how the Craft Center sewing machines operate, as well as what is provided and what you need to furnish.This orientation is for Experienced Machine Sewers, those new to sewing should take FBR- 32 or 38. Silkscreen Studio Orientation

WeaveLearn to Sew Workshop
Two Saturdays 1- 4:00 November 8 & 22 (+Membership or Day Pass)

This 2-day workshop will introduce you to sewing basics. The first day you will explore the “inner workings” of a sewing machine; then, with new confidence, you will decide what you wish to sew on the second day. Make a stuff bag, hem a clothing item, make a gift for someone special...many small projects possible! Everyone welcome! A great class to take if you wish to use Craft center sewing machines. Bring a pair of sewing scissors to class.

Basic Sewing: Make your own clothes!
Thursdays 6:30 -9 Oct. 16 to Dec. 11 (No Class 11/27)
FBR-38 Shilah Merrill Class Fee: $40
Learn to make your own clothes! Beginning and experienced sewers are encouraged to come learn sewing techniques, follow patterns and make fittings. Students will need to buy their own patterns and materials based on guidance from instructor. Suggested materials needed can be purchased locally for $20-$30.

Weaving
Tuesdays 6:30-9 Oct. 14 to Dec. 2

Learn the basics of hand weaving by creating a beautiful scarf or tea towel on one of our many table looms. Students will learn to wind a warp, read a pattern, sley a loom and weave off a project. All materials provided for the first project. (Note: Intermediate Weavers can arrange individual time with the instructor. Floor looms are available for more advanced projects.) Materials Fee: $3 for Beginning students only, pay to instructor on first class.
Intro. To Spinning: Four Sundays

This class offers instruction in carding and spinning of fleece. The Craft Center has spinning wheels and drop spindals available for beginners, or you may bring your own. Membership allows you to use wheels and tools anytime the center is open. Wool Fee: $5 pay to Instructor

T-Shirt Silkscreening

In this 4 week class, learn the various stages of silkscreening to enable you to print t-shirts of your own design. Topics will include design layout, screen preparation, image exposure and printing using a 4 station textile printer. Bring notepad or sketchbook for notes. A perfect class for club members, student group leaders or design majors.

Beginning Woodworking

This seven week class is for people who would like to learn basic woodworking techniques with a heavy emphasis on safety and proper tool use. Students may choose one of three simple projects to begin; a candle sconce, a plant stand, or a wall mirror/picture frame. These projects will allow students to build fundamental skills needed to safely work with wood and will create a great foundation for future projects. Classes are intentionally small so the instructor can provide individual help. Students furnish materials and most tools are provided. No prior experience required.

Guitar Building
Tuesdays 7-9:30 Oct. 14 to Dec. 2

Learn the skills and techniques required to build your own unique electric instrument. All aspects of construction from initial design to final tuning will be covered. The Craft center provides all the necessary tools; however students will need to purchase their own materials, estimated low end cost $175 and up. All skill levels welcome.

Sun Catchers

Make your own glass sun catcher using copper foiling technique. All supplies are provided and you will leave with a finished sun catcher to hang in your window. This class fulfills the requirements for Beginning Glass Fusing.

A Glimpse into Glass Lampworking Workshop
Saturday 12:30- 4 Oct. 18

This is a one day "test the waters" workshop and a great opportunity to see the exciting possibilities of glass torchwork! The workshop will focus on: demonstrations, safety issues, a basic orientation to lampworking and will culminate with a simple glass piece created on the torch by you. All supplies are provided.

Beginning and Continuing Stained Glass

View the world through a stained glass window that you create. Instruction includes glass cutting, pattern drafting, and assembly using the traditional copper foil methods. You can design your own pattern or select one from the many pattern books at the Craft Center. Continuing students work on more complex projects. Equipment and tools are provided but students furnish glass and supplies; these are available for purchase at the Craft Center. Please bring pencil, paper and project ideas to the first class.

Beginning Glass Fusing/ Kiln Formed Glass

You will be guided through the process of basic cutting, grinding, fusing, and glass slumping. This includes an introduction to basic tools, glass selection, and firing techniques. Glass cutting experience is RECOMMENDED. The Sun Catcher workshop meets this request.

Glass Fusing Intermediate Techniques and Projects

Learn new fusing techniques and make projects designed to utilize these new techniques.

Continuing Kiln Formed Glass

Discover the thrill of “Boro”! In this 8-week class learn the basics of torch operation and safety procedures for working with Borosilicate glass. Delve into some challenging & fun projects with a keen focus on the technical aspects of the medium. Learn how to make pendants, beads, marbles, sculpture, inside out work and much more. No experience necessary, for all skill levels. Students will purchase their own glass; instructor will assist students in making selections on the first class.

In this two day soft glass workshop, a variety of whimsical, holiday inspired beads will be demonstrated and executed...bring your own glass rod, ideas and prepare for fun. Please sign up at least one week in advance; instructor will email information so the group can maximize their classtime/torchtime.

Intro. to Glass Bead Making Workshop

Learn some of the basic techniques used in modern glass beadmaking. The focus will be on flameshop safety, bead shaping and surface patterns.Soft-glass will be the primary focus; however all techniques can be adapted for those wanting to use borosilicate. Torches and equipment will be provided along with initial start-up soft glass, for alternate glass see instructor.

Fused Glass Ornaments

Stringers, Twisties and Canes made in the Flame

This class is designed for the fused glass community with no flameworking experience, but all hot glass workers are welcome and will find it a challenge. Using COE 90 glass, the focus will be on making simple to complex twisted stringers and decorative cane for use in fusing or flamework projects. A selection of glass rod will be available for purchase or students may bring their own. Note: Messy process, wear appropriate clothing.

Stained Glass Stepping Stones Workshop

Personalize a beautiful stained glass stepping stone for your yard, walkway, garden or even table top. Makes a perfect holiday gift! Many patterns and colors of glass to choose from. Learn techniques for glass cutting and placement as well as cement pouring and finishing. Returning students will have the option of round or square forms. Holiday patterns will also be available. All skill levels welcome. Bring a sack lunch..

Open Torch Studio

Practice skills you’ve learned in class. Registration for open torch is limited to members who are in or have taken a Craft Center torch class and have completed an orientation Fall term. PhotographyShutterbug 101: Take Great Photos!

A four week introductory class designed to familiarize you with your camera (film or digital). An individual camera consultation will occur on the first class...Bring your camera! Topics of discussion: exposure, composition elements, lighting and other details will be discussed for both indoor and outdoor photographing. A field trip will be scheduled.

Beginning Photography

An individual camera consultation will occur on the first class...Bring your camera!
Learn to operate your camera, develop film, and print your own pictures. All darkroom equipment is provided. Students supply film, photo paper, 35mm (or 120) camera with manual shutter speed and f-stop. Photo supplies are available at the Craft Center. A tripod is strongly suggested. Please Note: Attendance at first class is Mandatory.
(Suitable for adults and older teens).

Enhancing Black and White Photographs- Photo II
Tuesdays 6-8:30 Oct. 14 to Dec. 2

Ever wonder why some black and white prints can look stark and cold while others can look rich and warm? Take this class to learn how! There’s a world of fine art fiber papers in varying textures and tones to discover. Learn how to enhance desired mood in your photographs through the use of chemical toners and other photograph enhancement techniques.
Supplies: The Craft Center supplies the printing and toning chemicals and photo oils, you supply black and white negatives to print and photo paper. Bring black and white negatives to the first class (these can be traditionally processed black and white negatives or C-41 processed black and white negatives). This class is suitable for beginning printers using both fiber and RC printing papers; if you want to use your own traditionally processed black and white negatives, a basic knowledge of film processing is REQUIRED.

Intermediate and Advanced techniques to help refine your skills in the photographic area of your choosing with methods for 35mm/medium/large format, Digital, digital scanning and mixed media photographers. We will discuss photographic techniques of interest to students with a strong emphasis on aesthetic theory. Come with an open mind and plenty of questions. Bring your equipment and examples of your work to the first class. A tripod is strongly suggested

Digital Photography
Mondays 6-8:30 Oct. 13 to Dec. 1
PHO-25 D. Broyles Class Fee: $48
How to effectively use your digital camera or digital scans of negatives and transparencies with Adobe Creative Suite to produce great photos or graphic images. The Craft Center provides Mac and PC’s, high quality scanner, software and large format inkjet printers. Depending upon your image, you can produce a final print from small to 24” x 50 feet! Ink cost is added based upon image size. REQUIREMENTS: Digital camera and blank CD, DVD or solid state drives (available locally at low cost). Printing paper available at additional cost. These classes are an adjunct to our current photographic curricula, which teach you basic to advanced photographic techniques.

Introduction to Photoshop
Tuesdays 6-8:30 Oct. 14 to Dec. 2
PHO-26 Anthony Weir Class Fee: $48
An introductory class to learn the fundamentals of Photoshop. The class will focus on how to: navigate the workspace, scan images, work with documents, use layers, compose images, use selections and masks and apply useful retouching techniques. Participants should bring a jump drive to transport files.
